An Award-Winning School

Why we’re among the best schools in Sheffield and Yorkshire

Our success can be measured in many ways, from the excellence of our public examination results or our latest inspection report; to the high quality destinations to which our leavers progress.

We also believe that we provide a fully-rounded educational experience for girls from a variety of backgrounds and of a variety of abilities.

One very tangible way in which our success has been recognised in recent years are the many national awards we have received. In doing so we’ve placed ourselves as one of the best primary and secondary schools with sixth form in Sheffield and Yorkshire.

Four Independent School Awards

For four years the School has won an Independent School Award.  For the first two years it was for Best Independent/Maintained School Collaboration, while in 2012 the School was recognised with an award for its Outstanding Community Initiative.  Our latest award is for ‘Outstanding Leadership Team' following the recent inspection in which the School was graded as 'Excellent' in all nine categories inspected, with 'Outstanding Early Years Provision' under Ofsted criteria.

The Independent School Awards recognise excellence in the strategic and financial management of independent schools in the UK.  To win four awards is unprecedented for any independent school, let alone to win four years in a row!

Career Mark

Career Mark Logo 2015-2017

Career Mark is a national Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) award validated by The Quality in Careers Standard Board (QiCS).  This award recognises that the School offers high quality careers education and guidance. We're the first school in Sheffield to achieve this accreditation.

PE Quality Mark with Distinction

Quality Mark - Distinction

The PE Quality Mark is a national award which recognises the strength and quality of physical education and sport in a school.  Sheffield High School has become only the second independent school to be awarded the PE Quality Mark with Distinction. It further emphasises how we have become not just one of the best secondary schools in Sheffield in the classroom, but also in our sports and PE activities.

ICT Mark

ICT Mark

The ICT Mark is a national award given to schools who display good use of technology to support teaching, learning and school administration in an effective and mature way. The School received its first ICT Award some years ago and this was renewed in 2016 following a review of the School's current use of technology.

A GO4it School

Sheffield Girls’ was first awarded GO4it status a few years ago. Go4it is a leading, nationally recognised award for schools demonstrating creativity and innovation.  Go4it schools must demonstrate a culture of creativity, innovation, positive risk-taking, a ‘can do’ attitude and, above all, a real adventure for learning. They must dare to do things differently and, by doing so, improve pupils’ understanding of enterprise and employment. This means developing employable attitudes and behaviour as well as skills.

Go4it provides a counterweight to overly bureaucratic and risk averse education cultures and believes that teaching children to experience and manage risk is not only key to personal (and enterprising) development, but will also make them safer.  Each term the School gives its own GO4it awards to both pupils and staff at bronze, silver and gold levels to recognise their GO4it, 'can do' spirit.

Artsmark Gold Award

Artsmark is Arts Council England’s flagship programme to enable schools and other organisations to evaluate, strengthen and celebrate their arts and cultural provision.  It is supported by, among others, the Department for Education, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted).

It was awarded to Sheffield Girls’ for the wealth of art, music, dance and drama within all age groups in school, enriching the girls’ learning from Reception right through to the Sixth Form. It sets us apart as one of the leading primary schools and best secondary schools in Sheffield and Yorkshire.

Eco-Schools Award

Eco-Schools empowers students to be the change our sustainable world needs by engaging them in fun, action-orientated learning.  It is the largest sustainable schools programme in the world and is operated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

Sheffield High School has been awarded the environmental ‘Green Flag’ for the second time under the Government’s Eco-Schools Scheme. To maintain our ‘Green Flag’ status, we have continued to make a positive contribution to various aspects of the environment including recycling, raising awareness of environmental issues, improving energy efficiency in school and working with the local community to improve local spaces.

Good Schools Guide

As one of the leading primary schools and best secondary schools in Sheffield we are also recognised as being a 'very strong' school by the Good Schools Guide.
