Welcome to Sheffield Girls’ Sixth Form: a institution for academic excellence, where young women can become exemplars for a healthy and happy life, as well as proactive, thoughtful members of the community.

A place for learning

In summer 2016, we celebrated another outstanding set of A-level results with 69% of entries graded A*- B. More than a quarter of the 92 girls who sat A-levels achieved straight A*/A results and almost two thirds obtained at least one grade A.

We pride ourselves on providing a bespoke curriculum for our Sixth Form students, and offer dynamic and diverse subjects and subject combinations. A-level teaching happens in small groups, with an average class size of 8-10. Additionally, whilst the national picture shows girls to be in a minority of entrants in the STEM subjects,  the take-up of these subjects here at Sheffield Girls’ Sixth Form bucks the national trend quite significantly; last year, we had 95 exam entries in the Sciences and Maths: an impressive third of all exam entries.

In Sheffield Girls’ single sex setting, our students face no pressure to conform to gender stereotypes, and make informed and unconstrained choices about interests, subjects and careers, with the help of our expert and dedicated teachers and advisors who guide them through each stage of Year 12 and 13.

An active and healthy lifestyle

Whilst we strive to help girls to attain the best academic results that they can, their self-esteem and happiness have to be at the heart of all we do. We offer an exceptionally wide range of co-curricular and enrichment activities to balance out academic study.

These activities are incorporated into the Y12 timetable, thus helping students to avoid being overloaded with lunchtime and after school activities – although, of course, they can be as involved in as many of the numerous activities available outside of lessons as they like, and many of our sixth-formers are.

Our enrichment programme includes activities such as Cookery, Young Enterprise and DoE as well as the chance to join our award-winning Sports teams in netball, football, hockey and much more. Please click on the link below to read our enrichment booklet.

Supporting the School and local community

Sheffield Girls’ sixth-formers undertake a minimum of 20 hours of volunteering over the course of Year 12, and most girls manage more than this. Opportunities to undertake community service both in and out of school abound, through, for example, the SHINE project, peer mentoring in the lower school and the chance to work as classroom assistants in our  Infants and Junior sections. It is important to us that our Y12 and Y13 students have ample leadership opportunities; Prefect and House Captain duties for all girls, across all areas of the school, from the very start of Year 12, provide this.

We are a socially and culturally diverse community with a cohesive approach that ensures we know our sixth form girls as individuals and can offer them the very best support and guidance to be the best that they can be.
