  • Charities 2008-2009

This has been another impressive year for our charity work, with the total raised at just over £17,500. On our recent non-uniform day we raised £200 for the Samaritans and £200 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Year 7 sold cakes for Bangladesh, raising nearly £150, and our Chamber Choir sang at Sainsbury’s, raising £800 for Lost Chord, a Dementia Charity. We have continued to support Claudia, a former street child in Colombia, and our adopted school at Jhum Para in Bangladesh with £1500.

Once again, form charities have been very varied: we have supported the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, the Grief Encounter Project, Child Bereavement Trust, Winston’s Wish, Cancer Research, Macmillan Nurses, the MS

Society and many others. Once again, we had a staff team in the Sheffield Half Marathon and over £300 was raised for the MS Society and for Macmillan Nurses. Frau Wol’s cello playing helped to raise over £55 for Aspire, a spinal injuries charity, and Miss Salmon did the Leeds 10 km mini-marathon, raising over £600 for SYEDA and an asylum seekers’ charity.

We held our first eco-day, raising £100 for the Sheffield Wildlife Trust. Other special collections have included Diabetes UK, Oxfam, collections in response to disasters in areas like Gaza, Sri Lanka and Darfur and, of course, our collections for Children in Need and Comic Relief.

Thank you so much to everyone for all your help with charities this year and especially to the Charity Reps – we couldn’t do it without you!
