Handling some slime in Year 8!

Chemistry is a popular subject in school, we are proud of this and the results achieved by our students. We aim to maintain the tradition through the quality of the educational experience we provide.

We view Chemistry as an experimental science and believe in a rich diet of experimental and demonstration work designed to stimulate curiosity and an interest in methods of enquiry. We aim to give our students a thorough grounding in the principles and applications of Chemistry and to make them aware that these applications can be both beneficial and detrimental to the individual, the community and to the environment.

Extra-curricular Activities

We feel that these are important and aim to involve our students in as many out of class activities as possible e.g.

  • Salters’ Festival of Chemistry

  • Salters’ Chemistry Camps
  • Spectroscopy workshop at Sheffield University
  • Young Analyst Competition
  • Reactiv8 project
  • RSC Olympiad

The girls increase their self confidence and develop many skills by being involved in these events, e.g. presentation, communication, team work skills and they often achieve very highly in competitions entered.
