What our Sixth Formers say…

Nicola Chan-Lam

Nicki gained A-levels in German, Maths, Further Maths and Physics and is now studying Maths with Actuarial Science at Manchester University. She is also Under-18 National Badminton Champion.

“I had the opportunity to take part in so many extra-curricular activities, including performing in concerts, trying different sports, working towards Duke of Edinburgh awards and even coaching younger girls. If it weren’t for Sheffield High School, I would never have even started badminton! Thank you to the PE staff for their participation and for being such good role models.”

Extra-Curricular PE

At Sheffield High School, the hard-working and dedicated staff in our Physical Education Department offer extra-curricular activities which aim to:

  • Complement and extend the curriculum beyond what is covered in timetabled sessions
  • Allow all pupils to extend their interests and abilities

  • Give our students opportunities for team and individual participation
  • Give leadership opportunities
  • Give opportunities to travel both in the UK and abroad
  • Allow students of different ages and abilities to interact

The PE Department is committed to offering a variety of extra-curricular activities and clubs which are open to all pupils. The programme is broad and balanced, so that all ages are given the opportunity to participate in a range of activities. The full timetable can be found in the termly School Calendar which is given to pupils and staff at the beginning of each term. The latest copy can be found here (link here).

As a school, we are also committed to supporting local sport and we have a long record of success in the Sheffield Federation for School Sport competitions. Both our teams and individuals are also given opportunities to compete against other independent schools in the Midlands and the North of England on a regular basis, both in friendly and competitive situations. Sheffield High School also competes in many national competitions and has achieved many county, regional and national finals titles and other records of achievement.

The achievements by teams and individuals are vast and are celebrated through the School’s ‘star system’, in assemblies, through the awarding of school colours and at our annual Prize Giving and at other official awards ceremonies. All achievements for the last academic year can be found in our annual Prize Giving programme and sports features can also be found in our annual School Magazine High Times and newsletter High Flyer.
