Year 9 Girls in London on way to LAFTA Awards

Three teams from Sheffield High School made it to the LAFTA Awards in London last week!

On Tuesday 6th July, ten Year 9 girls from Sheffield High School were invited to the British Film Institute in London for the LAFTA Award Ceremony. The Language and Film Talent Awards (LAFTAs) is a UK-wide competition which asks young people aged 13-21 to make two-minute film clips which demonstrate the importance of languages. All the Year 9 girls at Sheffield High made film clips as part of their Year 9 French work, for the topic “Why study languages?”, and three of their films made it to the national shortlist of 25 films. ‘We had a lovely day out, but unfortunately came home with no awards this year’, said Head of French, Claire Devaux , ‘though we fully intend to enter in future years!’
The national award finalists were:Lia Hanna, Lydia Bickley, Emily Jia, Charlotte Elmer, Leah Shields, Emily Thomas, Caroline Ridler, Rachel Hopkins, Lauren Jackson and Natalia Hackett.
