Icing on the Cake!
Girls displaying their hard work!
During their half term break, Sheffield High School girls really did have icing on the cake!
Girls from years 7 -9 took up the opportunity to follow a 3 day Cake Design course during the February half term holiday run at the school. The course was led by Rachel Edwards who runs a very successful Cake Design business (examples of her work can be found at www.cakesbyracheledwards.com). The course included:
• Cake design
• Colour co-ordination
• Learning & practising the basic principles of marzipaning and icing cakes
• Basic sugar modelling skills
• Basic piping skills
• Making a basic sugar wired topper
‘I’m sure I was not the only one who was wondering how it was going to take us three whole days to ice a cake and decorate it ‘ said Amy Dennis Year 8, ‘However, it turns out to be much more complex than you would think!’
The girls all had a great three days and made outstanding progress which their families enjoyed as at the end of the course the girls produced an iced fruit cake, personally designed to take home with them! ‘This was a fantastic course and I would definitely go on it again’, exclaimed Amy.
