Languages Day
Early linguist 'stars'
Who won the Language Quiz? Who had the most original caption, written in a foreign language, in the monthly competition? Sheffield High School senior students celebrated International Languages Day on 24 September, starting the day with the sixth form and ex-students addressing the whole school highlighting Languages Day.
The winner of this month’s ‘Caption Competition’ was announced for the most original caption to this month’s photo of a woman’s head with the Eiffel Tower strapped to it! There were some very creative entries including “¡Este sombrero es monumental!” and “Paris sur le cerveau” including the winning one from Josie Fletcher in Year 8.
We have just celebrated the successes of the year at our annual Prize Giving where amongst a host of other examination success and national awards, we congratulated girls who took language examinations early-
- All four girls who sat an early GCSE examination in a language all passed with A*! The youngest Sheffield High pupil to pass her early GCSE was Mazarine Yousefour aged 12 who passed French at A*. Anastasia Paschali aged 14 passed her Modern Greek at A* and Jenny Guan also aged 14 has her A star in Chinese. Georgia Azzi also had an A* in Italian which she took aged 15.
- Year 6 Junior School pupil at Sheffield High School Emily Hogg aged eleven passed her AS Japanese with a grade A! This followed last year’s A* in Japanese GCSE which she passed at the tender age of 10.
