Our Annual Prize Giving
Prize Giving 2008
Sheffield High School held its annual Prize Giving on Thursday 11 September 2008, 7.30 pm at the Octagon Centre, Sheffield University. The guest speaker was Kirsten Heywood and former student of the school between 1972 and 1986.
‘I would like to congratulate both the girls and the staff’ said Valerie Dunsford, Head at Sheffield High School, ‘I am proud to be a part of such a successful school where students regularly achieve over and above expectations. Our results, once more, were excellent with our seventh year with 100% pass rate at A level (80% A/B) and 70% A*/A at GCSE. Five of the A level results were the top in the country and six of our girls who took GCSE between two and six years early all passed with A*!’
Among the prize winners at Sheffield High School’s Prize Giving on Thursday 11 September 2008 were:
Taj Tomouk our current head girl who achieved straight A’s in her AS levels. She received an academic prize and highly commended in two of her subjects.
Hannah Groombridge passed her ten GCSE’S with straight stars! She received an academic prize and a Sixth Form Scholarship.
Hannah Davies received an academic prize for her work in Year 9 and numerous awards for sport including GDST Champion in both hurdles & 200m as well as the prestigious school ‘Junior Sportswoman of the Year’ trophy.
Panayiota Soutis achieved an amazing feat of a top 5 mark in Modern Greek even though she took it two years early at the age of 14! She also was awarded the Young Linguist’s Prize.
Clare Rees-Zimmerman received an academic prize for her work in Year 7 and also certificates for her Junior Maths Challenge Gold Award, for leading the school String Academy and also one for Grade 6 Violin.
Emily Hogg our youngest GCSE candidate who at the age of ten, achieved A* in Japanese!
As part of the event we also celebrated achieving Artsmark Gold and the new GO4IT National Award, reported on our development as an Eco School Bronze, as well as our developing links with China with this years Summer School event with the rest of the GDST and news of the Sports Tour that also went to China pre Olympics.
