Senior School House Structure
Sheffield High School’s House system has a vertical structure across the whole school and the houses take their names from the four founder members of the school – Maria Grey, Mary Gurney, Emily Shirreff and Lady Stanley of Alderley.
The Junior Department reflects this system using the same colours, although Grey House in known as ‘Amethyst’, Gurney is called ‘Emeralds’, Shirreff is known as ‘Sapphires’ and Stanley is called ‘Rubies’.
The photo shows the Senior School captains with the Sixth Form officials who run the Senior section, underneath the portraits of the founders.
Numerous competitions and events are organised each year including:
- sporting events such as netball, rounders and athletics
- art competition
- Year 7 Mathematics Day
- celebrations for the School’s birthday
