Celebrating the ICT Mark!

Students at Sheffield High School are at the forefront of using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to enhance their work, and that’s official!

Following an extensive external assessment Sheffield High has been awarded the prestigious ICT Mark by Becta, the government-funded body responsible for promoting the use of ICT in Britain’s schools and colleges.
The award recognises the school’s success in developing the strategic use of ICT in both administration and across the curriculum. Parents will have proof that their children are attending a school at the forefront of modern technology.

Alex Robinson, Deputy GDST ICT Strategic Adviser, said “The Girls’ Day School Trust is determined that all girls in Trust schools will have the best opportunity to excel in the jobs market of the future. Sheffield High should be congratulated on this wonderful achievement. This demonstrates the excellent ICT management and teaching that is taking place in our schools.”

Head teacher Valerie Dunsford commented “We are delighted to be awarded the ICT Mark. It recognises our positive approach to ICT and the benefits it is bringing to our students. We believe that ICT can be used in every aspect of learning and that it is essential our girls are equipped for the modern world. We were very pleased with the comments on our strengths from the assessor and are very grateful for all the work of our ICT Development committee headed up by Ian Guest, our IT School Leader.”

• ‘strategic leadership is very strong, well focussed and coordinated across both Junior and Senior Departments
• the process of having an ICT Leader who is not a member of the Senior Management Team has paid great dividends in this school
• the imaginative use of the VLE (Moodle) across the Junior Department is worthy of special praise
• very high levels of ICT attainment, particularly at GCSE and A level stages
• professional development is very good, both internally and externally, under the sensible guidance of the ICT leader.’

Niel McLean, Executive Director for Schools and Families at Becta said “Sheffield High School thoroughly deserve the accolade of an ICT mark. They clearly demonstrate how important it is to take a holistic approach to using ICT in schools. Their investment in new technology has contributed to substantial improvements in learning.”
