The girls have been attending a lunchtime club at the school since October, learning Mandarin Chinese and finding out more about China and its traditions. Their Chinese teacher, Jia Ding, has brought the subject alive for them and the girls were particularly keen to welcome in the Year of the Dragon. The group sang two songs in Chinese, a traditional one about the jasmine flower and a second wishing everyone a Happy New Year. The performance also included a recital by Fu Ge Yang, a Y6 pupil, on her Pipa, a traditional Chinese instrument.

The Dragon (simplified Chinese: 龙; traditional Chinese: 龍), is one of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac and Mongolian zodiac related to the Chinese calendar and Mongolian calendar, and the only animal that is legendary. The Year of the Dragon is associated with the earthly branch symbol 辰 and is considered the luckiest year in the Chinese Zodiac. (Source: Wikipedia)
