Community spirit - 'gritty' team work!

On ‘Black Ice Day’, when much of England woke to find roads impassable, several of the Sheffield High School staff plus a team of five Rok workers, including senior site manager, Jason Madeley were out on the streets helping parents, pupils and neighbours arrive safely.

‘It was pretty obvious that none of the pupils or staff would make it safely,’ says Jason, ‘so we pitched in with other early arrivals to make things safer.’ Rok is the firm currently building an extension to the sixth form building.

‘The endless carrying of buckets and spreading of grit was made light work with so many hands. The sight of one of the builders carrying lots of little school bags down the road whilst the girls clung to the teachers was wonderful to see!!! It was a real community group effort, both pupils and many local residents were very grateful!’ said junior school teacher Emma Dickson.

Residents of the neighbouring Southbourne Avenue added their own words of praise with thanks coming in for the community spirit showed by the staff in making the road safe.
