Olivia Beavers, a Year 10 pupil at Sheffield High School, has won the coveted “Swimmer of the Year for 2011” title at Sheffield City Swimming Club. Olivia was presented with the “Margaret Randall Swimmer of the Year” plaque at the SCSC’s recent Awards and Presentation Evening.

The Margaret Randall Swimmer of the Year Award is presented annually at the Club’s Awards Evening by Ken Randall in honour and memory of his wife Margaret who was instrumental in the development of the Club.

Olivia, who is fourteen, continued her improvement both in and out of the pool which was rewarded by the achievement of North-East Region qualifying times in the Junior Division Women’s 50 Freestyle & Breaststroke.

‘I ‘ve been nominated for this award a few times before, so I was really surprised and very proud to be given it this year’, said Olivia who trains six times a week and has some of the top times for her age group in the county.

Olivia was consistent throughout the 2011 Barnsley Minors League season and contributed to SCSC winning the Barnsley Minor League Championship where she swam in both the 14 years age group and also in the older open group, winning 5 of 6 individual events. She also collected a host of medals and personal best times throughout the year. Olivia maintained a good attendance record and a complete up-to-date swimming log book while also showing leadership skills to both her peers and to the younger swimmers.
