Tennis Team take the Trust Trophy!
Trust Tennis Champions 2010!
The GDST Tennis Trophy, a trophy dating back to 1893 from this national competition, has come to Sheffield High School for the first time in the school’s history!
The three couples from Sheffield High School travelled down to Queenswood to play at the tennis centre along with the other 27 schools in the Girls’ Day School Trust (the biggest group of independent schools in the country). The girls were:
• First couple Louise Holtum aged 15 & Natalie Chan-Lam aged 14
• Second couple Rachel Hopkins aged 14 & Olivia Noble aged 13
• Third couple School Tennis captains Katie Wensley & Kirsten Reilly both aged 17
In their section they beat Howells, Ipswich, Streatham, Sydenham and Nottingham before meeting Croydon in the quarter final. The semi was against Putney and the final Newcastle. In all three of the knock out games they were very exciting with 2 sets to 1 wins and in the three rounds, each of the couples saved the team to take them through to the next round towards the championship win! The results were:
• 2-5 5-0 5-4 v Croydon
• 5-4 5-3 1-5 v Putney
• 5-3 5-3 2-5 v Newcastle
This completes an excellent year for tennis at Sheffield High School as the Under 13 tennis team from the end of last season had also achieved a first – qualifying for the Aegon National Schools Team Tennis Finals where they were placed third in the country! Three of the Trust Tennis Championship team also played in the Trust Tennis Championship winning the magnificent trophy.
Earlier this year the Sheffield High School Netball squad also won a historic victory when they too brought home the Netball GDST Trust Trophy for the first time in the history of the school.
