Year 11 Group off to Grand Final

The ‘Texas Instruments Maths Team Challenge’ girls from Sheffield High have made it to the grand final!

Earlier this year, five Year 11 girls from Sheffield High School entered the Texas Instruments Maths Team Challenge. The aim of the challenge was to engage learners with the collection, analysis and exploration of data. Their task was to develop a mathematical solution to a real-world global problem using real-data collected from the internet. Lauren Potter, Katherine Wensley, Naomi Andrews, Dehenna Davison and Charlotte Edwards worked hard as a team exploiting their ICT and mathematical skills by analysing population statistics and presenting a solution to the global over-population problem.

They have been invited to the grand final in Northampton and if successful they will win the TI Maths Team Challenge Trophy, will receive a class-set of TI-Nspire technology with data logging sensors for their school and will be invited to present their work on the TI stand at the BETT exhibition in January 2009.
