North of England CO-Gas Safety’s School Poster Competition Winners

The North of England CO-Gas Safety’s School Poster Competition was recently won by Lily Bolsover, Year 7 at Sheffield High School “I felt really honoured to go to the House of Lords for this award … though the best bit was the cake!” The competition is used to raise awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning and other gas dangers. The trophy was presented at the House of Lords by last year’s winner Tayla Shelley Year 8, also from Sheffield High, “It was really good to be able to go to the awards again. There was much more support for the charity this year”.

Sheffield High School Junior teacher Sarah Groombridge linking PHSE and Science enabled the girls to enter the competition when in Year 6. She accompanied the girls to the awards ceremony, as the charity is very close to her heart.
Ed Balls, Schools Secretary and MP for Normanton said: “Carbon monoxide is one of those deadly dangers that some people still don’t take seriously. The work that the charity ‘CO-Gas Safety’ do to raise awareness of the risks is crucial, and helps to save lives. I congratulate them again on the success of their schools poster competition.
I urge all primary schools to involve their Year 6 pupils in the competition – it’s a great way to learn how to keep yourself and your family safe from carbon monoxide.”
