Welcome
Mrs Valerie Dunsford
I hope that you will enjoy browsing through our website. What you will see will give you an indication of our friendly, stimulating environment where all girls, whatever their talents or interests, have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
We aim to develop each girl academically and personally through careful teaching in a happy, civilised and well-equipped environment. If you read our latest inspection report (available on the ISI website), you will see that we are judged to be very successful in achieving our aims.
If you can come and see for yourself, you will be more than welcome. I am always happy to show parents around, so do make an appointment and visit us soon.
In the meantime, if you’d like to download a copy of our latest Junior, Senior or Sixth Form prospectuses, please go to our School Publications page.
Mrs Valerie Dunsford
Headmistress
From a parent following a recent visit to the School
“Dear Mrs Dunsford
Please can you pass our thanks to Mrs Dunsford for sparing the time to show (daughter’s name) and me around the school yesterday.
(Daughter’s name) absolutely loved the school and is now more determined than ever to work hard in Year 6 so she can do the best she can in the entrance test.
My mother and I attended the visit and were extremely impressed with the school. We got a good feel for the ethos and culture and how the girls are nurtured to develop their individualism and talents. I also spoke to a couple of girls on our way out and they could not have been more enthusiastic about their school.
I hope (daughter’s name) does well enough to be offered a place. If she doesn’t – keep up the excellent work.
Many thanks again.”
From a parent of a Year 7 starter
“Dear Mrs Dunsford and team
Thanks you so much for settling (daughter’s name) into the school so well. Indeed, she is so desperate to get into school each morning, which says so much.
I am so grateful for your kindness and care of my daughter. Thank you.
Best wishes.”
From the parents of a girl who has changed schools
“Dear Mrs Dunsford
We thought that we would drop you a short note to say a big thank you to yourself and to your staff for helping (daughter’s name) settle into Sheffield High School so well.
She is thoroughly enjoying her new school and has already made some lovely friends. We feel that she has just slotted into the school life as if she has always been there. All her teachers have taken the time to help her integrate into the curriculum and she feels confident in her learning. She is participating in the netball training after school and is also really enjoying her art and dance sessions. Additionally, she has already made friends with fellow sports pupil (name given), who is an ice skater, and has been in contact with the sixth form girls about participating in the NSEA competitions.
We are extremely grateful for the opportunities offered to (daughter’s name) and hope that she continues to flourish. It is reassuring that we made the right decision regarding changing schools!
Many thanks and kind regards.”
From the parents of a Year 13 leaver
“Dear Mrs Dunsford
Sincerest thanks for the wonderful education and experiences that you and your dedicated staff have provided for our daughter over the past few years.
When you first found a place for her at Sheffield High School back in Year 8, it was as if the whole family had been handed a lifeline! As you will remember, she was so unsettled and unhappy at her previous school and this began to affect us all.
Looking back to when she started and seeing her now, we are delighted with her all round progress and truly believe that, without Sheffield High School, she would not be in the position she is now: strong, confident, with a steely determination to succeed and ready to cope with life’s challenges.
In my line of work I am often asked about secondary schools and can’t speak highly enough about our experience at Sheffield High School. What a fantastic investment and one we will never regret!
Thank you so much.”
Letter from Nick Clegg, MP for Sheffield Hallam constituency and now Deputy Prime Minister –
Dear Mrs Dunsford
I am writing to congratulate your school on its successful examination results this year….. I was particularly impressed at your 82% A* and A pass rate at GCSE. I would like to add that a record 83% of all A-levels gaining either A or B grade is an extremely high achievement that is a credit to your school.
These excellent results are testament to the continued hard work and dedication of both your students and teachers. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all the best for the coming year.
Yours sincerely
Nick Clegg MP
