Sheffield High School

Is This the School for You?

What others say about Sheffield High

From a parent of a Year 7 pupil

“Dear Mrs Dunsford

I must say (daughter’s name) absolutely loves the Senior School. Every day it’s a joy to see her excitedly arrange her books for school, talking of homework, clubs and friends – I believe she is thriving in such an excellent nurturing environment. Thank you for providing such an platform from which girls can excel in any of their chosen fields.”

From the parent of two Year 13 Leavers

“Dear Mrs Dunsford

Thank you for my daughters’ schooling. I am delighted that they both have places in prestigious medical schools and that they look forward to securing rewarding futures and transferable skills. Their academic results were stunning and the High School also nurtured their life skills, their fitness and the building of a network of friends.

I shall miss the High School life but my daughters are ready to use their special start to make a difference in the wider world.

Many thanks and best wishes ….”

From a parent following a recent visit to the School

“Please can you pass our thanks to Mrs Dunsford for sparing the time to show (daughter’s name) and me around the school yesterday.

(Daughter’s name) absolutely loved the school and is now more determined than ever to work hard in Year 6 so she can do the best she can in the entrance test.

My mother and I attended the visit and were extremely impressed with the school. We got a good feel for the ethos and culture and how the girls are nurtured to develop their individualism and talents. I also spoke to a couple of girls on our way out and they could not have been more enthusiastic about their school.

I hope (daughter’s name) does well enough to be offered a place. If she doesn’t – keep up the excellent work.

Many thanks again.”

From a parent of a Year 7 starter

“Dear Mrs Dunsford and team

Thanks you so much for settling (daughter’s name) into the school so well. Indeed, she is so desperate to get into school each morning, which says so much.

I am so grateful for your kindness and care of my daughter. Thank you.

Best wishes.”

From the parents of a girl who has changed schools

“Dear Mrs Dunsford

We thought that we would drop you a short note to say a big thank you to yourself and to your staff for helping (daughter’s name) settle into Sheffield High School so well.

She is thoroughly enjoying her new school and has already made some lovely friends. We feel that she has just slotted into the school life as if she has always been there. All her teachers have taken the time to help her integrate into the curriculum and she feels confident in her learning. She is participating in the netball training after school and is also really enjoying her art and dance sessions. Additionally, she has already made friends with fellow sports pupil (name given), who is an ice skater, and has been in contact with the sixth form girls about participating in the NSEA competitions.

We are extremely grateful for the opportunities offered to (daughter’s name) and hope that she continues to flourish. It is reassuring that we made the right decision regarding changing schools!

Many thanks and kind regards.”

From a Year 13 Leaver

“Dear Mrs Dunsford

I owe you a great deal, not only for your intervention over this August’s results, but for all your help with my Extended Project Qualification and the tremendous support I’ve felt throughout my time at Sheffield High.

It has been an extremely turbulent but ultimately rewarding 7 years and I can’t say enough to thank you and the school. It feels like a dream to be going to Cambridge this October and would have almost certainly stayed a dream had the school not (a) acted so quickly to get my paper re-marked and (b) put up with my cynical, argumentative, demanding me for 7 years prior to this.

Many thanks again ……”

From the parents of a girl moving from main school into the Sixth Form

“Dear Mrs Dunsford

Following (daughter’s name) receipt of her GCSE results, we felt it appropriate to write to you to express our sincere thanks for the guidance and teaching that you and your staff have provided for her since she joined Sheffield High School in Year 7.

Her achievement of 9 A grades plus 2 B grades at GCSE across a wide range of subjects is a tremendous achievement for her in itself but, more importantly, the way that she has developed into the mature and responsible young lady that we believe she has become is due in no small part to the guidance and attitude demonstrated by your team at Sheffield High School. The way in which you encourage the pupils, including our daughter, to be mature and responsible members of the school undoubtedly engenders respect for their school and, by extension, respect for the community in which they live. This is the reason why we hoped our daughter would attend Sheffield High School and you have not let us down. We feel that we have raised (daughter’s name) in partnership with yourself, your staff and the school as a whole over the past 5 years and for this we are very grateful.

(Daughter’s name) is very much looking forward to returning to the Sixth Form at Sheffield High School in September and we look forward to continuing that partnership with the school over the next two years.

Yours sincerely …..”

From the parents of a Year 13 leaver

“Dear Mrs Dunsford

Sincerest thanks for the wonderful education and experiences that you and your dedicated staff have provided for our daughter over the past few years.

When you first found a place for her at Sheffield High School back in Year 8, it was as if the whole family had been handed a lifeline! As you will remember, she was so unsettled and unhappy at her previous school and this began to affect us all.

Looking back to when she started and seeing her now, we are delighted with her all round progress and truly believe that, without Sheffield High School, she would not be in the position she is now: strong, confident, with a steely determination to succeed and ready to cope with life’s challenges.

In my line of work I am often asked about secondary schools and can’t speak highly enough about our experience at Sheffield High School. What a fantastic investment and one we will never regret!

Thank you so much.”

July 2011

Letter from Nick Clegg, MP for Sheffield Hallam constituency and now Deputy Prime Minister –

Dear Mrs Dunsford

I am writing to congratulate your school on its successful examination results this year….. I was particularly impressed at your 82% A* and A pass rate at GCSE. I would like to add that a record 83% of all A-levels gaining either A or B grade is an extremely high achievement that is a credit to your school.

These excellent results are testament to the continued hard work and dedication of both your students and teachers. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all the best for the coming year.

Yours sincerely

Nick Clegg MP
