Wirewear – the one to wear!

“Wirewear” was born in October 2009 at Sheffield High School. A team of 24 Year 12 students put their heads together to produce the Wirewear concept: saying no to naked wires. That was the starting point.

The marketing team made a thorough review of the market, checking out the popularity of such products and seeing what was already available for the public to buy. The team discovered that the targeted market (ipod wearing people) appeared very enthusiastic about the idea and that the “headphone charm” was in existence abroad but was not readily available in the UK.

The management team decided to explore the possibilities of selling “Wirewear” specific charms (designed by Wirewear) and having them produced by existing manufacturers in China. Wirewear’s Chinese speaking team members successfully achieved this, placing the order for a set of 11 exciting designs, including the limited edition “eco charm” – a charm symbolising a pledge to save our planet.

The sales team had been patient long enough so when the Wirewear charms arrived just before the Young Enterprise National Trade Fair in Stratford on Saturday 20th March, they were rearing to sell. Their enthusiasm was not unfounded as Wirewear’s charms proved very popular with the people of Stratford. In fact, Wirewear caught the attention of Stratford Community Radio who live-interviewed Wirewear’s Managing Director alongside Roy Hawkes, the Head Judge of Young Enterprise.

Wirewear’s marketing team have successfully negotiated a deal with BBC Apprentice stars Philip Taylor and Kate Walsh to endorse the charms. Wirewear were “absolutely chuffed” to receive pictures of these two modelling the charms. Phillip AKA Pants Man (Apprentice Candidate Season 5) said “I completely support Wirewear in their pledge to help reduce the effects of climate change.” So come on Alan Sugar is it….You’re Fired or You’re Wired!

The team are still coming to terms with the success they are experiencing from the effort they have put in. Needlesstosay, they are very excited and enthusiastic about the future.
