City planners have given the go-ahead for a bold development to the School’s existing Sixth Form Centre by granting permission for a large extension to enhance our facilities for our most senior girls.

Much time and effort have gone into the planning of this project, both to accommodate the wishes of students and of the School and to ensure that we respect the fact that this work is being carried out on a listed building in a conservation area.

Work has already begun on this ambitious scheme to add an exciting range of new resources to support our students and it will continue into 2010.

The School is benefiting from considerable financial and logistical support from our parent organisation – the GDST – in order to undertake this project. We have also been working hard with the contractors for this project to ensure that disruption to students and to our neighbours during the building phase is kept to a minimum.

Consultation with our sixth formers has been ongoing during the planning phase and the new building will incorporate a large new Learning Resource Centre exclusively for use by sixth formers with key study material, laptop computers, a Virtual Learning Environment and a wealth of careers resources.

But it’s not all work! Our students will also benefit from a new café and kitchen diner in which to relax and unwind with outdoor decked spaces in which to socialise.

Sheffield High School’s Sixth Form has an enviable reputation for its results at A-level. We now boast a 7th Year of a 100% pass rate, with 80% of all passes being at the top grades of A or B.

Almost half the year group once again achieved grade A in all their subjects in 2008, with four girls achieving among the highest marks in the country.

We also offer a vast range of enrichment opportunities to our students to enhance their sixth form experience, with girls getting the chance to undertake voluntary work, run their own business in school or even take a beginners course in Mandarin!

Our students go on to Oxford, Cambridge and other top universities across the country to study anything from medicine and sciences to law and the performing arts. Our A-level results are consistently the best in South Yorkshire.

Girls travel from far and wide to attend the High School, often making use of the fleet of coaches organised by parents, bringing girls to the High School from all over South and West Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire.
