The Waring Sisters with their awards

Congratulations to Sheffield High School pupils Ellie and Sophie Waring who are celebrating after being granted Young Athenian awards for the work that they do for Phase, a charity which is based in Wickersley, Rotherham. The two sisters, who are aged 12 and 13, attended the Young Athenian awards ceremony on March 7 at the Hellaby Hall Hotel and, alongside 13 other young people aged 18 or under, they were honoured for the positive contribution that they make to the lives of others.

The nationally-recognised Young Athenian awards are supported by Athena International – a worldwide programme which promotes achievement and encourages women to take on leadership roles. Ellie and Sophie were nominated for their efforts in organising various fundraising events – they have collected £200 as a result of a beauty day and their recent quiz night raised a further £350. Approximately fifteen of the coveted awards are granted nationwide each year and so Ellie and Sophie were naturally delighted to discover that they were two of the four overall winners at the ceremony last month. Well done again to the girls!
