Digital Innovation
Sheffield Girls’ pupils are the digital citizens of the future.
Our commitment to equipping pupils with the tools they need to thrive in a changing world is reflected in our school environment where technology and digital skills are seamlessly embedded in all areas of school life – in our curriculum, co-curriculum and beyond.
Shortlisted for the Tes Schools Awards 2024 for ‘Best Use of Tech’, at Sheffield Girls’, the teaching of technology and digital literacy is deeply integrated into our curriculum and beyond from Reception through to Year 13. Our aim is to develop forward-thinking digital citizens of the future who are confident in using technology to enhance their learning, solve problems and drive innovation.
We are a Google Reference School
We are delighted to be part of a small international group of schools accredited as a Google Reference School, which recognises us as leaders in the use of technology in education. Chromebooks and Google Workspace are used extensively throughout school for a wide range of activities including lessons, clubs, clinics, events, competitions, personal research and homework.
Our site-wide use of digital screens allows both pupils and teachers to effortlessly share and present from their Chromebooks, encouraging pupils to hone their presentation and public speaking skills.
The passion our pupils feel for technology is reflected in our successful GCSE and A Level Computer Science results, as well as the achievements of our students in a wide range of regional and national technology competitions such as Bebras Computing Challenge, First Lego League, CyberFirst UK, Science Olympiads, Industrial Cadets, and the Crest Awards.
Guided Home Learning
Our innovative approach to Guided Home Learning, meticulously refined during the Covid-19 pandemic, ensures that should lessons need to move online, for example due to inclement weather, there is minimal disruption to learning. Our comprehensive use of Google Classroom, Firefly and other bespoke learning resources keep learning accessible to all pupils in a way that encourages independence, self-review and resourcefulness.
Digital Leaders
Our Digital Leaders are an enthusiastic and proactive group of pupils who meet regularly to advocate for the student voice in all digital matters. They work collaboratively with teaching staff to drive the school’s digital strategy, and play an essential role in maintaining an ongoing dialogue between pupils and staff.
As part of the wider Student Leadership cohort, our Digital Leaders play a key role in helping to shape our uniquely warm, welcoming school community.
