Pupil and Parent Voice

It is our pupils, staff, parents, carers and wider community who define us a school. We work hard to ensure they take an active part in decision making and we collect their feedback to influence strategy and planning to make sure we reflect their priorities and concerns in everything we do.

Here are some snapshots of what some of our pupils have to say about us, reflecting our school values of courage, positivity and kindness.

Courage

“Lots of people find it hard to stand up at the front and talk/read out work. Despite this, they do it anyway, and everyone is really supportive of them”
Senior School pupil
“I love the extra curricular sports clubs because it doesn’t matter what level you are at, you just go and have fun with your friends.”
Senior School pupil
“I really enjoy collaborating with girls in other year groups and meeting professionals to learn about their career paths.“

Kindness

“Our teachers are always available if you have got questions or need any extra help and it has been really inspiring to see how everyone in school is always kind and polite to each other even when they don't necessarily know each other.”
“The teachers and other staff go out of their way to make school enjoyable and entertaining, and support us in whichever way they can.”
Senior School pupils
“I just think that the school generally has a really kind feeling about it.”
“When new girls join the school in the middle of the year, pupils always try to be kind to them, help them make friends, get them used to the new school environment and are very welcoming.”
Senior School pupils
“People are always kind to each other in school and often hold doors for people and smile at people in the corridors.”
Junior School pupil
“Everyone helps the Year 7 girls navigate around school at the start of the year.”

  • We share some of the feedback from parents and pupils who recently joined our school communnity.

“We were concerned that the School may be very strict and rigid but this is not the case at all. There are sensible boundaries which the girls understand, but our daughter has always felt relaxed, supported and encouraged to express herself.”
    – Year 6 parent

“Our concern was that no one in either of our families had been to an independent school and we worried that our daughter wouldn’t fit in. There was no need to worry. She settled in extremely quickly.”
    – Year 8 parent

“As our daughter has two brothers, we were concerned that she may miss not being around boys at school. We have found that the opposite is true and that she very much values her time with her friends.”
    – Year 6 parent

“I was so nervous on my first day, but the minute I stepped into the form room I was made to feel welcome and was included into a friendship group straightaway.”
    – Sixth Form new pupil

“We think that girls tend to doubt themselves more than boys, so being in an all-girls education where you’re encouraged to be confident and to believe in yourself, can be the difference between you actually flourishing at something, as opposed to not even giving it a go.”
    – Year 6 parent

“We have been delighted by (our daughter’s) progress and her boundless enthusiasm to attend school every day.”
    – Year 6 parent

“Our daughter was quite a shy little girl when she started at Sheffield Girls’ but has developed a quiet inner confidence and resilience, which is helping her to navigate high pressure situations with ease.”
    – Year 6 parent

“Today is the end of our daughter’s first four weeks with you. She is waking up happy in the morning, enjoying reading to me, getting excited at the thought of telling her teacher and class about her writing/reading at home, and is incredibly happy… I can see with absolute certainty that the environment she’s now in is exactly what she needs to develop and grow and be happy. I can tell from her confidence and the way she talks about school that she feels seen and heard and important and valued and cherished. I can’t put into words what it means to me to see my daughter thriving.”
    – Junior School parent

  • We stay in touch with the parents of our alumnae who reflect on their experiences with the school:

“The education that our daughters received from their first few days in Reception class to their last terms in the Sixth Form has been outstanding.”

“We have no doubt that the positive environment at Sheffield High School for Girls has helped to shape both our daughters into confident, caring and capable people. We feel sure that the core values learnt at school will stand them in good stead throughout their lives.”

“Since Year 6, the school has enabled our daughter to do both schooling and elite swimming – it’s a balance not a compromise. Small class sizes made sure she had all of the support she needed. Girls can stand out here – the focus is all about learning, building your confidence and building character as an individual.”
