Wonnie Song Hall

Deputy General Counsel at Teamworks

Class of 2007

University:Duke University, English with minors in Chinese and Film Studies

Please outline the key stages of your career so far from graduation to your current role.

After completing my GCSEs at Sheffield Girls’ in 2005, I moved to America to attend Duke University, where I graduated with a degree in English and minors in Chinese and Film Studies. I then relocated to New York in 2011 to break into the sports industry by managing videogame and toy licensing deals for the NBA.

Seeking to deepen my expertise in high-stakes corporate strategy, I went on to graduate from Harvard Law School in 2019 and joined Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP as a corporate lawyer, representing public and private companies, private equity firms, and banks in major strategic transactions with a focus on mergers and acquisitions. Most recently, I brought my career full circle by merging my legal expertise with my passion for sports, joining the sports tech company Teamworks as Deputy General Counsel.

What single thing do you love most about your career? Have you received any awards or commendations or been involved in any unique projects or developments?

I love having the opportunity to work with people who are the very best at what they do. Whether it’s a boss, a teammate or a client, working with, and learning from, incredibly intelligent people that you truly respect is motivating and so rewarding.

What piece of advice would you give to our pupils as they look at our alumnae stories and consider their own future careers?

Always have a plan for achieving your goals. But don’t be so tied to the plan that you forget to look up and see where life takes you. What might first seem like a setback or a wrong turn may actually bring you to an unexpected opportunity or an option you didn’t even know existed. Be open to evolving your plan. If you find yourself in a male-dominated space, don’t dwell on it. You are probably thinking about it more than everyone else in the room. Instead, focus on yourself: be prepared, be smart and be exceptional.
