Bursaries at Sheffield Girls’:
The gift of opportunity
Sheffield Girls’ is committed to educating girls from all backgrounds and this is possible thanks to donations from alumnae, former staff and friends to the Sheffield Girls’ Bursary Fund.
Our aim, as we approach our 150th anniversary in 2028, is to honour the pioneering equitable vision of our School’s founders and grow our endowment by £1million. This figure represents the amount needed to secure in perpetuity a new fully-funded Bursary Award place each year.
Raising funds for bursaries, for both immediate need and building our endowment fund, is the focus of the fundraising that we undertake. Our thanks to all those in our community who support bursaries and thereby give the gift of opportunity and change young lives for the better.

Here are some of their stories:
Kate Richards
Class of 2001
General Counsel, Centurion Bulk
“Confidence and resilience are the main attributes I take away from Sheffield Girls’. Without the foundations the school helped me to create, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to go for the role I have in my career.
Sheffield Girls’ opened up opportunities for me that would otherwise have been out of reach.
If you are considering making a gift, please do! A bursary is the gift that keeps giving. It sets girls up for life.”
Roshina Nandra
Class of 2003
SVP of Product at Endava
“Sheffield Girls’ supported me, celebrated my inquisitiveness and accelerated my learning.
After my PhD in Astrophysics at the University of Cambridge, I moved to the USA and have spent most of my working life in the corporate world.
I simply couldn’t have attended Sheffield Girls’ without a bursary and wouldn’t have known what I was capable of.
Bursaries democratise access to a first-class education. If you can afford to give, know that it really makes a difference to girls’ lives.”
Francesca Makey
Class of 2002
Lead Orthotist, Sheffield Children’s Hospital
“I am extremely grateful for the financial support I received. Sheffield Girls’ gave me experiences and opportunities I wish everyone was able to have.
After University, I started work as an Orthotist and absolutely love my job. It is so rewarding to treat and rehabilitate patients by aiding their mobility.
Bursaries give wonderful, hardworking children not born into wealth, a helping hand. If you can afford to, please give and help them fulfil their true potential.”
Letty Butler
Class of 2001
Copywriter, Editor & Coach
“Sheffield Girls’ equipped me with the confidence, curiosity and communication skills to pursue an unorthodox career path.
I am incredibly grateful to have received a bursary, and know it gave me the best possible chance to succeed across a range of highly competitive creative industries.
If you can afford to make a gift to support bursaries, please go for it. You will change someone’s life.”
