Preparing for Senior School
Our outstanding Infant and Junior School is the perfect springboard for success beyond the primary years.
Not only do we cultivate a love of learning in every pupil and set them up for lifelong success in their academic journeys, we also ensure that our pupils are equipped with the resilience to thrive during the transition from Year 6 to Year 7.
Progression to Seniors
In Year 6, we support our pupils in completing the entrance examination for our Senior School and the vast majority of our pupils continue on to Year 7 at Sheffield Girls’. Taster events at Seniors start in Year 5 and pupils have many opportunities to complete lessons, meet teachers and pair with older peer mentors prior to them completing their time in Junior School.
Regular assemblies from our Senior Leadership Team help Junior girls to get to know our Senior School staff, providing a sense of continuity and stability for them as they prepare to move up the school. Pupils are familiar with our Senior School long before their first days in Year 7, allowing for a more relaxed start to their secondary schooling.
Parents and carers benefit from the continuation of school systems, reporting and communication tools that they are already familiar with from Juniors.
In Summer Term each year we welcome our current Year 6 pupils and families to join us for an informal evening of entertainment, quizzes and challenges and to mingle with our new joiner families ahead of the start of Autumn Term in Year 7. This is a great way for our pupils to forge new friendships and build some excitement ahead of their new start in Senior School.
Shared Ethos, Shared Spaces
Our school values of positivity, courage and kindness pervade our school community from Reception to Year 13.
Not only do our Infant, Junior, Senior and Sixth Form girls share this ethos, but they also benefit from shared spaces and co-curricular activities. Older girls act as role models for the younger students, taking on peer mentoring positions, leading clubs and providing student-led pastoral support alongside our dedicated pastoral care team.
By the time girls reach Year 7, they are familiar with the ethos, spaces and faces around our school, making for a seamless transition to the challenges of senior school life.
Girls of Steel
Our unique character education programme, Girls of Steel, is the thread that runs through our pupils’ whole journey at Sheffield Girls’.
The programme is firmly established to all of our Infant and Junior girls through our Girls of Steel awards and portfolios, so by the time they progress to our Senior School, they can build on their achievements and continue to develop their self-knowledge, skills and confidence.
