Former pupil Katie takes gold at the Horse of the Year Show
At the London International Horse Show at Olympia recently, Ben Maher, International Show Jumper and member of the British Olympic gold medal winning team presented former Sheffield High School pupil Katie Midgley with her Young Equestrian Leader Gold Award.
Katie, who is studying International Equine and Agricultural Management at the Royal Agricultural College, became involved in volunteering within an equestrian environment following the setting up of the highly successful school Equestrian Team at Sheffield High School, something she hopes to continue to promote in the future.
Katie and five other award winners were invited to Olympia by the Pony Club’s Young Equestrian Leaders Award (YELA) team and each winner was treated, with a guest, to VIP hospitality.
Katie had the added honour of being chosen to present the first place rosettes and champagne, together with Matthew Cobble, the Youth Co-ordinator at YELA, to the winners of the Pony Club Mini-Major. Supported by the Young Equestrian Leader Award, this class was won by Jack Smith from Ledbury Hunt Pony Club on Romany River Bobby Sox and Roger Yves Bost on Castle Forbes Cosma from France.
Katie is now looking forward to the next Annual Pony Club Conference as Matthew has asked her to help promote the award and to take part in a presentation to delegates at this event to be held at Cheltenham Race Course in March.
