Gymnasts head to the national finals
Sheffield High School gymnastics teams will, once again, soon be off to the National Schools Gymnastics finals, this time in Stoke-on-Trent. The Under-11 and Under-14 teams came first in the recent regional championships in York and so therefore go forward to represent Yorkshire and Humberside.
The Under-19 A team just missed out on finals qualification finishing in silver medal position and the Under-19 team displayed the strength and depth of gymnastics at Sheffield High by taking the bronze medal.
The Under-11 team for the nationals consists of Emilia Boneham-Hoare, Sephora Ford, Bronwyn North, Lydia Nuttall and Jessica Vega. The Under-14 squad is made up of Scarlett Miskin, Lucy Buchanan, Tianna McKenzie, Emily Wyman, Sophie Akhavan-Hezaveh, Pippa Kelly and Eloise Boneham-Hoare.
This achievement comes just two months after the school’s trampolininsts were crowned national champions in two different age groups.
This year so far, thirty High School pupils have experienced national school finals in Badminton, Gymnastics and Trampolining. In addition the schools Under-19 tennis team competed this week in the Aegon Schools tennis – the penultimate round to the nationals and they have made it to the national finals and the Under-16 rounders team have hopes for national qualification too after winning the Sheffield city tournament.
