We are delighted to share the news that Sheffield Girls’ GDST has been shortlisted for Excellence in Pupil Enrichment at the Tes Schools Awards 2026, one of the most prestigious national awards in education. The winners will be announced at the finals on Thursday 19th June, and we are incredibly proud to be recognised at this level.
This shortlisting is a powerful endorsement of our Girls of Steel character education programme and, more broadly, of the rich co-curricular experience that sits at the heart of school life. At Sheffield Girls’ we do not see co-curricular as something additional; it is integral. We are intentional in designing an environment where character development is nurtured alongside academic excellence, ensuring our pupils are equipped with the confidence, resilience and emotional intelligence needed for the future.
In practical terms, this means every pupil has access to a wide and carefully structured programme of over 100 activities each week. These span STEM, the creative arts, sport, leadership and academic enrichment, with opportunities tailored across all age groups. Our ‘power-hour’ lunchtimes are a key feature, creating protected time within the school day for pupils to explore interests, try something new or deepen existing passions without competing demands on their time.
We also place strong emphasis on participation and progression. Pupils are encouraged to build a personalised pathway through the programme, supported by our digital Girls of Steel portfolios. These allow them to reflect on their experiences, set goals and recognise their own growth over time. Whether preparing for national competitions, taking on leadership roles, performing on stage or collaborating in teams, every girl is supported to find where she thrives.
What makes this truly special, however, is the culture that underpins it. This recognition belongs to our pupils, whose enthusiasm and willingness to embrace opportunity bring the programme to life, and to our staff, whose dedication, creativity and care create the conditions for success. Together, they foster an environment where our values of kindness, positivity and courage are not simply words, but are lived every day.
It is this combination of ambition, support and genuine enjoyment that creates what many of you will recognise as the ‘magic’ of Sheffield Girls’. To see that recognised on a national stage is a moment of great pride for our whole community.
