‘The Full Package’ – Areas of Excellence Highlighted in Good Schools Guide Review

We are delighted that Sheffield Girls’ has been chosen to feature in the Good Schools Guide, highlighting the breadth of our outstanding educational offer. Following their visit in June, the Good Schools Guide has recognised a multitude of areas of excellence across the School, praising our position as the ‘full package’ offering ‘excellent outcomes, traditions, relevance and a unique offer for girls’.

Drawing from in-depth parent perspectives, candid pupil interviews and observational school visits, the review offers an independent, insightful perspective on numerous elements of our unique provision, including our innovative teaching and learning, thriving sports programme, vibrant co-curricular programme and our ethos, values and heritage.

The visit came at a timely point in the tenure of our new Head, Alex Wilson, who has just concluded her first term at Sheffield Girls’. In conversation with the Good Schools Guide, Mrs Wilson took the opportunity to outline her vision and principles for the school. She remains steadfast about maintaining our academic reputation but ensuring the school remains a greenhouse, a place of nurture and growth, rather than a ‘hothouse’.

Reflecting on the visit, Mrs Wilson commented:

“It was a real joy to take part in a visit from the Good Schools Guide at the end of my first term at Sheffield Girls’. Having the opportunity to speak candidly about my approach and ethos, as well as hearing such positive feedback from our pupils and parents, served as a powerful affirmation of my vision for our school.”

We are also grateful that, as part of the review process, our pupils and parents stepped forward to volunteer their thoughts and reflections on our school community. When invited to share their feedback, our parents praised our warm, inclusive, and nurturing environment and candid communication, reflecting on an experience that is just as positive for them as it is for their daughters.

When approached to give their feedback, our  ‘articulate, sparky and razor sharp’ pupil ambassadors were similarly positive in providing invaluable insights to the review team. One of the core principles of our Girls of Steel character education programme is emphasising to our girls that their voices matter. The Good Schools Guide visit was powerful evidence of the programme’s impact, with girls from Reception to Sixth Form all enthusiastic to share their experiences of life at Sheffield Girls’.

Our parent and pupil ambassadors’ openness, positivity and honesty are truly testament to our thriving and supportive school community.

The ‘Full Package’

The review concludes by describing Sheffield Girls’ as ‘the full package’. This endorsement highlights our unwavering commitment to providing a unique, nurturing environment that offers ‘excellent outcomes, traditions and relevance’. Our rich heritage as a founding GDST school, combined with our unwavering commitment to all-girls education and strong pastoral support, truly solidifies our position as the leading all-girls school in the region.

We extend our thanks to the Good Schools Guide for choosing to feature Sheffield Girls’ and for capturing the warmth and spirit of our school community.
