Sheffield High's Jess is highly commended
Year 13 student at Sheffield High School, Jessica Denniff, was highly commended in a competition recently for pupils showing all-round achievement in school.
The Minerva Prize is offered each year by the school’s parent organisation, the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST). Each school within the Trust is permitted to enter one candidate from Year 13 and Jessica was nominated for the award.
Competitors have to demonstrate their past and present involvement in various activities within and outside school, with particular reference to academic achievements, contributions to school life and extra-curricular activities undertaken within school, for example debating, Duke of Edinburgh awards, drama, music, sport and activities undertaken outside school including community service, paid work and so on.
Candidates are also asked to bring any other areas to the attention of the adjudicators and to provide a rounded picture of themselves. From the 26 schools within the GDST Jessica was one of only eight shortlisted for interview.
Interviews took place in May with candidates facing a panel comprising former GDST Council member and Honorary Fellow, Lady MacGregor, Jim Peers, ex-Deputy Chairman of the Council and current Trustee and Council member Jane Richardson.
