Sheffield High's U19 tennis team reaches national finals

The Sheffield High School tennis team, consisting of Natalie Chan-Lam, Louise Holtum, Rachel Hopkins and Olivia Noble, have battled their way through four tough rounds to reach the Aegon National Schools Tennis Finals.

The team faced their biggest challenge against Robert Smythe Academy, with both Natalie and Rachel beating much higher rated players. Natalie’s match was particularly exciting, being decided by a nail-biting 11-9 third set tiebreak. On the other hand, Olivia chose to avoid undue excitement by winning all of her matches convincingly, in every single round!

One huge advantage to the team was that they played three out of four of the matches at home and received fantastic support from both staff and fellow students.

The results were as follows:

  • SHS v Danum Academy 12-0
  • SHS v Repton School 8-4
  • SHS v Robert Smyth Academy 8-2
  • SHS v Berkhamsted School 8-0

Happily, the national finals are almost a home fixture as well, as they take place at the Graves Tennis Centre in Sheffield from 9–12 July.

We wish them all the best of luck and they will of course be delighted to receive lots of support!
