STEM stars achieve phenomenal A Level success alongside artistic endeavours

We were delighted to celebrate the Class of 2025’s exceptional A Level results yesterday.

This year has seen phenomenal success in students pursuing a number of highly competitive STEM degrees, including Medicine, with a diverse range of A Level subject choices and creative pursuits outside of the classroom.

Their success reflects a Sixth Form environment that nurtures character, creativity and curiosity as well as academic potential, where students feel liberated to pursue their passions, uninhibited by subject choices.

One of six students with places at Oxbridge, Sophie has a place to study Medicine at Oxford and achieved straight A*s in her A Levels. Sophie balanced her studies in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, and an EPQ in the gender gap in management of heart attacks, with her musical passions. Sophie is a talented violinist and has been heavily involved in co-curricular music, performing regularly at open events and concerts.

Three of our future medics have achieved exceptional success with combining A Level Chemistry and Biology with A Level Fine Art. Maryam achieved A*AA and will be studying Medicine at the University of Liverpool, and Ellen, who achieved A*A*A, will be going to Queen’s University Belfast. As a talented harpist, Ellen has also been heavily involved in the co-curricular music life of the school, balancing performances with her studies, art coursework and role as Deputy Head Girl. Priyanka, who achieved A*AB, will be studying Medicine and Surgery at the University of Newcastle.

Priyanka commented: “I’m incredibly relieved, but I also feel really good. If I had to sum up my two years in Sixth Form, I would say it was a time of hard work and, most importantly, friendship.”

Ellie is another student who has achieved exceptional results – two A*s and two As –  whilst being supported to explore a wide range of interests in and out of the classroom. Having been heavily involved in co-curricular drama throughout her time at Sheffield Girls’, Ellie recently starred as Alice in our senior production of Alice’s Wonderland, balancing rehearsals with her A Level studies. Ellie is truly ‘reaching for the stars’ and will be pursuing Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Birmingham in September.

Ellie commented: “I’m so incredibly happy to have got into my first choice university. If I had to sum up my time in Sixth Form, I would say it’s been the best 18 months of my life, definitely.”

We are proud to offer an exceptional range of 26 A Level subjects, enabling girls to pursue a varied combination of subject choices and feel uninhibited by limitations such as gender stereotypes.  We encourage our Sixth Formers to choose subjects that reflect their passions, interests and ambitions, free from preconceptions about what might secure a university offer, helping them grow into confident, self-assured, independent young women.

Our students also benefit from participation in our wider school’s thriving co-curricular and arts programme, enabling them to enrich their Sixth Form experience with creative pursuits outside the classroom and supporting student wellbeing throughout the demands of A Level study.

We are truly a school where girls learn without limits and we are incredibly proud of all of our Sixth Formers who balance the demands of A Level study with wholeheartedly pursuing their creative interests and passions. Well done, all!
