On to Sixth Form
We support the transition from Year 11 to Sixth Form very closely, providing lots of opportunities for our upper school pupils to visit and study in the Sixth Form and meet with their older peers prior to them confirming their A Level choices.
Most of our Sixth Form teachers also teach in the senior school so pupils benefit from that familiarity and can successfully move into A Level studies.
After completing their GCSEs our pupils are excited to move on to the final stage of their school life. Many of our A Level courses are delivered in our specialist Sixth Form Centre, where our students enjoy independent study and social time in an environment tailored to their needs which best prepares them for the learning environments they will experience at university.
We treat our students as the mature and responsible individuals they are, with autonomy to manage their own free time within the timetable, the ability to leave site
during free periods and lunch, and no school uniform.
Our multi-layered approach to Sixth Form support combines pastoral, academic and careers guidance, to ensure that every individual is given the opportunity to flourish and succeed in a happy, friendly and supportive environment.
Results
Our small class groups and a tailored educational approach which reflects how girls learn best, means our academic outcomes are exceptional. The overwhelming majority of our students go on to study at their first-choice university.
On results day our Heads of Departments, Head of Careers, Examinations Officer and SLT are all on hand to celebrate our girls’ amazing grades and to support students with finalising UCAS and other Post 18 choices.
A Level Subjects and EPQ
Students in Sixth Form have the choice of 26 A Level subjects, one of the widest ranges available in the region.
We offer three A Levels plus EPQ in Sixth Form and we have a broad enrichment programme to support this. We can also tailor the timetable to meet individual needs and ensure our students can take whatever courses they wish. It is sometimes possible to complete a fourth A Level if timetabling allows.
A Levels aren’t always easy, and we always recommend that students first and foremost select those subjects that they most enjoy. In the classroom, our students are taught by experienced subject specialists, many of whom are also examiners for the relevant exam boards, who will inspire and guide them through their chosen course.
Forging Futures
As our Year 11 students move up to Sixth Form they embark on our Forging Futures enrichment programme alongside their A Level studies. This programme provides opportunities for girls to develop their interests in any given area and to enhance their leadership skills.
Alongside careers support and specialist tutorials, other activities include:
- Photography
- Model UN
- Peer educators in PSHE
- Events Management
- Mock Trial
- Marketing
- Enterprise (GDST LEAD Programme)
