Sixth Form Co-curricular

Student life is about much more than academic success, and at Sheffield Girls’ we encourage pupils to pursue an active, engaged and balanced school life.

Our students access a wide selection of activities, programmes and learning experiences that complement Sixth Form study, enabling them to thrive and take charge of their own individual development.

Pupils can explore new topics and discover hidden talents through our Forging Futures programme and our flexible, open-ended co-curricular schedule. We embrace student-led initiatives and are keen to introduce new activities in response to what our students are interested in and feel passionate about.

There are dozens of clubs and societies, ranging from Debating to Trampolining, covering everything from the Arts and STEM, to Humanities, Sport and Culture. There are endless opportunities to volunteer, participate, perform and compete. We also love to get out and about and our incredible offer in the classroom is complemented by a wide range of outdoor education and residential trips in the UK and overseas. You can find out more about our co-curricular and trips offer here.

As part of a larger through school community our pupils will enjoy a wide range of leadership opportunities and as members of the Sixth Form are expected to set the tone for the School and take the lead – be that as a Prefect, House Captain or Sports Captain. Many of our Sixth Form students also enjoy the opportunity to take on a position of responsibility in the Junior School, acting as an assistant in the classroom or by participating in the Reading Buddies and Junior Helping support programmes.

Trips and visits

Our students embark on day trips and residential visits throughout the year. Recent examples include:

  • Business and Economics trip to New York
  • Politics trip to London
  • Art trip to Florence
  • Spanish trip to Majorca
  • Ski trip to Italy

Sport

During Sixth Form our sports teams and those pursuing individual disciplines continue to be given opportunities to compete against other schools and individuals in the Midlands and the North of England on a regular basis, both in friendly and competitive situations.

Sixth Former students have the opportunity to run sports clubs, provide coaching and mentoring to younger players and Captain our teams. Year 12 and 13 students compete in many national competitions, and we achieve county, regional and national finals titles every year. We support our elite athletes to continue with their competitions and balance the demands of their A Level studies during their time in Sixth Form.

Leadership Opportunities

Our Sixth Form students work in partnership with girls from across all year groups during their time in Year 12 and Year 13. They work as Walking Bus Supervisors, they run lunchtime clubs and lead as Sports Captains, they act as Reading Buddies in the Junior School and support academic departments as Subject Prefects. Our Head Girls team occupy roles of significant responsibility in Sixth Form, acting as role models for all of our pupils and delivering a programme of activities throughout the final year at school.

Through our broad range of leadership opportunities our pupils develop confidence and communication skills, learn to work within, and lead a team and make new friendships to last a lifetime.
