Jean Goodwin began teaching in Barnsley before moving to the Sheffield Girls’ Mathematics department, progressing to Head of Maths and later Director of Studies. She is now retired after 32 years of working at the school.
Jean is very passionate about education and sees being a governor at Sheffield Girls’ as a privilege. She is particularly interested in the development of the curriculum and its impact on pupil progress and enjoyment, the way the school develops and how it supports the staff, in addition to how the school creates strategies to support the wellbeing of staff and pupils.
She has used her retirement to do all the activities she did not have time for during her teaching career, including working part-time at Haddon Hall in Derbyshire as a guide and a member of the education team. Her creativity is expressed through painting, print-making and working with fabrics. She loves the outdoors, and you will often find her walking in the Peak District, travelling, or being involved with the FOBS (Friends of the Botanical Gardens Sheffield).
