GP alumna returns as part of new speaker series

GP and founder of The Lowdown, Fran Yarlett returned to school as part of our new Live Lunch speaker series hosted by Mrs Metcalfe-Murgatroyd.

Fran shared her experiences of GCSEs and A-Levels at Sheffield Girls’, her medical training at Cardiff University, and her decision to diversify into tech supporting online contraceptive service The Lowdown. Accompanied by her gorgeous daughter Josephine, Fran talked about resilience, pursuing a career in medicine, and juggling working successes and family life.

Senior pupils from years 8 to 12 attended the session, lead by Head of Careers Mrs Metcalfe Murgatroyd. Year 12 student Gabby said, “The talk with Fran was incredibly interesting, as she gave great advice that I will try to implement into my life. She has taught me that changes of direction will not mean that you won’t reach the same destination.”

Live Lunch will continue next month, spotlighting our alumnae with a wide variety of life experiences and chosen careers. Next month, journalist and former BBC Breakfast contributor Emma Firth joins us in the main hall.
