sakshi is runner up in the national finals of the 'Performing Shakespeare Competition'
We are delighted to announce that Year 9 pupil Sakshi Jha successfully made it through to the national finals of the ‘Performing Shakespeare’ Competition, which took place at the Gielgud Theatre in London on 21 March.
Sakshi was one of two runners up out of 25 performances, and received a special judge's commendation. She worked on her performance in her Drama lessons with Mrs Dowling, her Speech and Drama teacher. Find out more about studying drama GSCE at Sheffield Girls'.
For the competition, Sakshi was required to make a video entry of herself performing a Shakespeare monologue. She chose a monologue spoken by Joan of Arc, from Henry VI part 1.
The competition is intended to allow school pupils to enhance their understanding and enjoyment of Shakespeare through speaking and performing, encouraging self-expression, creativity and above all, self-confidence.
Sakshi said: ‘I've really enjoyed getting to know the character I am playing. It has improved my confidence with performing to audiences and I was thrilled to be in the Finals.’
