Sheffield Girls' announces next Infant and Junior Head

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Emily Green as our next Junior Head at Sheffield High School for Girls, GDST.

Head, Nina Gunson said: “It’s been such a pleasure to work with Emily both in her capacity as a class teacher and more recently in her leadership role as Deputy Head and to see her complete commitment to the pupils, parents, staff and wider school community. As well as leading the monitoring and reporting of pupil progress and the development of the Infant and Junior enrichment programme, Miss Green has shown her skill as an exceptional classroom practitioner, a leader with a clear vision for the School, a supportive colleague, and a role model who really gets to know each girl. We’ll be delighted to welcome her onto the School’s Senior Leadership Team in autumn and we look forward to working together across our incredible school as we continue to forge our girls of steel.”

Miss Green is currently Deputy Head (Academic) in the Infant and Junior School and has been instrumental in driving recent developments, which have seen the school gain national recognition as the Independent Prep School of the Year 2023.

Reflecting on her appointment, Emily said: “I am extremely honoured to be the next Head of Juniors at Sheffield Girls’. Under Mr Hald’s leadership, the school has developed a curriculum and character education programme which has been nationally recognised and I am eager to continue to develop this further. I remember as a little girl, being so excited and eager to walk through the gates of Sheffield Girls’ Infant and Junior School and feel the same way now as I begin the next journey leading the school that gave me so much.”

Miss Green attended Sheffield High School for Girls before completing her undergraduate degree in Natural Science at Durham University and her PGCE at the University of Nottingham. She has continued her professional development throughout her career in education, most recently completing a Senior Leadership Apprenticeship and an MSc in Educational Leadership. After her first teaching role at Totley Primary School, Emily joined us at Sheffield Girls’ in 2016.

Often seen running the hills of West Sheffield, Emily brings the same level of energy into her work and is a highly valued member of the Sheffield Girls’ team. She puts her athletic skills to great use instructing younger gymnasts and has recently started a new Cheer squad. Current Head, Chris Hald said: “‘I am absolutely delighted to be able to pass the baton on to Miss Green, as the next Head of Infant and Juniors for Sheffield Girls’. Miss Green has been an integral part of the development and success of the school as the Deputy Head. I am excited to see its continued growth and more amazing achievements under her leadership.”

Our pupils are equally excited about the prospect of Miss Green taking the helm next year : “I am very pleased that Miss Green is going to be our Head as I feel she knows us well and she will think about the school and will hear our voice as she makes decisions, as well as the adults and teachers. “ (Year 5 pupil)

Miss Green will start in her new role in September this year after the retirement of the school’s current Junior Head, Chris Hald, this summer.
