Sports Successes in National Schools’ Badminton and GDST Gymnastics, Netball and Cross Country
We are pleased to report that last week was a very successful week for sport at Sheffield Girls'!
At the National Schools’ Badminton Competition on 6-7 March, we are pleased to announce that the U14 team became Yorkshire and Humberside champions.
They will now go forward to represent the region at the National Finals which will be held at the National Performance Centre in Milton Keynes in May.
The team consisted of Mara Sergienko, Alex Lam, Lucy Wadsworth and Izzy Ponsford. The U16 team were the Yorkshire and Humberside Runners Up, which is also an excellent achievement, and we congratulate that team of Caitlin Illingworth, Laura Smith, Jess Holtum and Katie White.
On Thursday 9 March the GDST Gymnastics, Netball and Cross Country Rally took place. Our Senior Gymnastics Team of Freya Grant, Jessica Vega, Tiegan Walker, Scarlett Miskin, Lucy Buchanan and Pippa Kelly won the GDST Senior Gymnastics Championships in Bromley, with Lucy winning the individual award.
The Senior Netball team played tremendously well in a very tough section of the draw and progressed to the later rounds of the plate competition.
The Year 7 and Junior Cross Country teams gained some top 50 placings and Saskia Huxham placed 3rd in the Senior Event. On Friday the U16 and U19 Gymnastics Trio National Finals took place and all of the girls performed very well, with the U19s placing 7th out of 18 teams.
