Sheffield Girls' celebrates second annual 'Melbournians' Lunch

On Friday 25th April, we were delighted to host our second annual Melbournians Lunch at Sheffield Girls’.
Our Melbournians are pupils who have been with us from Reception all the way through to Year 13, marking an incredible 14-year journey. This year, we celebrated 15 girls from the Class of 2025 who reached this special milestone.
The celebration began with a delicious lunch, where the girls shared memories of their earliest days at school. As they passed around photos from Reception and chatted about their first school experiences, they were joined by familiar faces including Mr Spick, Dr Mac, Miss Green and our new Head, Mrs Wilson. The Junior Hall was soon filled with laughter and joyful nostalgia, as they recalled old uniforms, past nativities and tiny classroom chairs.
After enjoying a slice or two of cake, the Melbournians joined Reception teacher Mrs Leslie to revisit some of the things that made their early years so memorable. From Floppy the Hero and butterfly nets to tiny school shoes and princess dolls, her memory boxes brought back the magic of those early days at Sheffield Girls’.
The girls then had the chance to meet our current Reception class. Each Reception pupil picked her very own "big girl" Melbournian to join her in the Moonbeam classroom. Surrounded by the sound of cutting, gluing and lively chatter, they worked together to dress up paper Melbournians, while talking about what they wanted to be when they grow up.

After a flurry of birthday party invites and carefully styled paper outfits, the girls headed outside for a very special photo in the Infant playground. A quick play on the slide followed, before the Reception girls waved goodbye to our Melbournians and headed off to PE.
Reflecting on the day, Alice, one of our Melbournians, shared:
“The Melbournians lunch and activities with the Reception students brought back so many fun memories from our first years at Sheffield High School, especially seeing everyone’s first day of school picture and how much they’ve changed. It also reminded us of how much the younger years look up to us as Year 13 students, showing the lasting influence the school has on everyone.”
We are proud to have celebrated our Melbournians for a second year. As this tradition becomes a beloved part of our school leavers’ calendar, it reminds us of the deep sense of connection that links our pupils from their very first day to their last.
