Sheffield Girls’ pupils’ artworks chosen for Sheffield Young Artists 2025 exhibition
We are enormously proud of our young artists for their participation and success in this year’s Sheffield Young Artist competition. Organised by The Rotary Club of Abbeydale, the competition invited young creatives from across the city to submit their work for an exhibition at the Central United Reform Church which was open for public viewing on Friday 25th April and Saturday 26th April.
We are delighted this year that two of our senior students, Eva (Year 12) and Lola (Year 9) have won prizes for their incredible work submitted for the exhibition; Eva for her painted portrait of snooker player Judd Trump, and Lola for her vibrant Hockney-esque landscape piece of a church surrounded by rolling hills.
Year 12 artists Emily, Freja and Eva were also invited to be part of the exhibition for their portraits of World Snooker players. In celebration of the 21st anniversary of the exhibition and in collaboration with the World Snooker Tournament, pupils were invited to submit portraits of players to be included in the exhibition and the official programme of the World Snooker tournament. We are enormously proud of our Sixth Form artists’ talents and delighted that their work has also been chosen for the exhibition.

In the Infant and Junior School, forty-five girls from Reception to Year 6 were represented across 55 individual pieces of work, including painting, drawing, mixed media and 3D work which was trialled for the first time at the exhibition. We are proud to have been selected to share some of our 3D pieces: grooved ware pinch pots from Year 3, beautiful bas-relief fruit-themed clay tiles from Year 4 and abstract sculptures inspired by Barbara Hepworth from Year 6.
Our Infant and Junior girls' dedication to their work and artistic talent has paid off after four pieces were selected to be shown at the Art in the Gardens exhibition in the Botanical Gardens in September by Imogen Year 2, Alexis in Year 3, Ziqi and Rosie in Year 5.

To celebrate our girls’ achievements, Eva and Lola were invited to a special prize-winners’ reception with the Lord Mayor, Cllr Jayne Dunn, alongside our Head, Mrs Wilson. The following week, all four young artists were invited to the official opening ceremony of the exhibition, where they had the opportunity to meet fellow young artists from around Sheffield and celebrate each other’s achievements.
Sheffield Girls’ Head of Art, Kairen Andrews, commented: “We are extremely proud of our art students who received awards, alongside the talented Y9 students who exhibited their Hockney inspired landscape paintings. The creativity, dedication and enthusiasm our students show daily is reflected in the outstanding artwork they make. It is wonderful to see our young artists develop their own style and approach throughout their artistic journeys.”
As a City of Excellence for Children’s Art, this annual competition is the latest in Sheffield’s long-standing tradition of artistic excellence. This year we are delighted to once more see our pupils play their part in upholding the city’s legacy as a hub for art, creativity and innovation. Our thriving and dedicated Art department plays a huge role in this, offering our pupils myriad opportunities to hone their artistic talents and channel their Sheffield Girls’ courage in creating vibrant, expressive and bold art.
Congratulations to all of our pupils for their success at this year’s competition. We look forward to seeing what’s next for our young artists.
