Daphne Cawthorne was the Headmistress of Wakefield Girls’ High School and Junior School (part of the Independent Association of Prep Schools and the Girls’ Schools Association) from 1998 to 2015, and is now retired. Her daughter Laura Cawthorne attended Sheffield Girls’ from 1988 to 2002, and is a Marketing Executive at QVC Global Shopping Channel.

Daphne is an Honorary Member of IAPS, having been Vice-Chair and Chair, a Governor of Repton and Foremarke School, an IAPS mentor, the IAPS Trust Charity Grant Secretary, and an ISI Reporting Inspector. She also taught pupils internationally in Malawi, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

She is a member of the local Lecture Club and Sheffield’s Soroptimist International Group, and enjoys swimming, cooking, hill walking and travel.

Having been a governor at Ashdell Preparatory School for 10 years, Daphne was keen to transfer across to Sheffield Girls’ after the two merged in 2017.
